Sandra Brownlee Workshop

Some photos from the wonderful workshop, Tactile Notebooks, we had at our studio (http://www.textilestudio.ca/) with the artist Sandra Brownlee.  On the first day, we each had this lovely package waiting for us at our place on the table.

This was the idea we worked from on the fourth day: Objects Hold Memories. We worked from objects that we had brought with us that connected to a personal memory.

Colour experiments - playing with colour, mixing, intermixing and thinning.

A page from my notebook - we were working from the idea of something dark and mysterious.

Some of Sandra Brownlee's Tactile Notebooks.  She has been keeping these notebooks for many years and they act as a portable studio for her, a place to think, write, respond and play.

Studio Inspiration

I like to keep some inspiring objects on my worktable in my studio.  Some of these are natural objects: pebbles and stones, seed pods and bones.  Others are materials I'm thinking about using, like my collection of old shell and bone buttons, or these beautiful metallic glass beads from the bead market in Kathmandu.

Natural Dyeing in the Studio

I have been doing some sampling with natural dyes.  Here are some of the results in my studio.

The Photo Shoot

Many thanks to Olivia for being such a great model to work with and to Nicole for her wonderful photography - and her patience!  The photo shoot went well, and the results should be up on our website shortly!  Here are a few details of some of the blankets we shot.
